Why is Christmas The Perfect Time For A Mystery?

๐ŸŽ„ December in a Cozy Mystery World

Snowflakes, secrets, and a little holiday mischief

December always arrives quietly at first.

One morning, the air smells sharper. Coffee tastes better. Lights flicker on before dusk like the town itself is clearing its throat, preparing to tell a story.

Thatโ€™s when I know itโ€™s time. Time for small towns to pull on their winter coats. Time for secrets to creak louder beneath floorboards.

Time for ghosts, gossip, and the occasional murder to refuse to wait until January.

This month, Iโ€™m leaning fully into everything December does best. The twinkling charm, simmering tension, and the kind of magic that only shows up when snow hushes the world and everyone pretends nothing bad ever happens in cozy places.

โ„๏ธ A Town Like This Oneโ€ฆ

Picture a street just like the one above. Brick paths dusted with snow. Shop windows glowing warm against the cold. Garlands hung a little crooked because someone rushed. A church steeple watching quietly, as if it knows things.

These are the kinds of towns my stories love. They look innocent. They smell like cinnamon and pine. They whisper secrets after midnight.

And December? December gives them permission to misbehave.

๐Ÿ” Why December Is the Perfect Month for Mysteries

Thereโ€™s a reason so many of my stories gravitate toward winter. People gather when they wouldnโ€™t normally. Old grudges resurface over hot cocoa. Strangers arrive claiming theyโ€™re โ€œjust visiting for the holidays.โ€ Ghosts, well they tend to linger when the veil feels thinner.

In December, everyone is watching everyone else. And no one is paying attention to the right thing. Thatโ€™s when trouble slips in.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ What Iโ€™m Working On Behind the Scenes

This month is full of quiet scheming and loud ideas.

Iโ€™m: Plotting future mysteries where holiday traditions hide dangerous secrets, Refining worlds where talking pets notice what humans miss, and building cozy towns that feel warm until they donโ€™t. Letting ghosts talk when they absolutely shouldnโ€™t.

There are new sleuths stirring, old favorites refusing to behave, and more than one small town preparing for a year that will not go as planned.

(They never do.)

๐ŸŽ A Little Thank You, Wrapped in Tinsel

December is also when I pause long enough to look back and forward. If youโ€™ve read one of my books this year, shared a post, left a review, or simply showed up to escape into a cozy world with meโ€ฆ thank you. Truly.

Stories only work when someone is listening. And next year? Next year has big plans. More mysteries. More ghosts.

More towns with far too many secrets for their size.

โ˜• Before You Goโ€ฆ

Light a candle. Pour another cup of coffee or cafecito. Let the snow fall outside your window, real or imagined.

And remember:

In cozy towns, December is never just festive. Itโ€™s suspicious.

๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ” Happy holidays,
